Want to provide immediate help to our unhoused neighbors? Here are four opportunities:
1). Tent City 3: Go to sharewheel.org/tent-city-3 to find a list of what Tent City 3 especially needs right now. We understand that top needs currently include blankets, tarps, tents and bottled water.
2). Little Free Pantry: Our neighbor to the immediate north, Congregation Beth Shalom, has a free food pantry that gets lots of use in front of their synagogue. They invite us to help keep it stocked and share this information:
Can you help us stock the Little Free Pantry?
The Little Free Pantry is located in front of the congregation Beth Shalom Annex just north of the synagogue. Those in need are encouraged to come by and take what they can use.
Who is this Little Pantry For?
You! It’s for everyone who happens to be in our neighborhood, Wedgewood resident or visitor, Beth Shalom member or broader community member. We invite you to take whatever you need, and to bring whatever you can.
Suggested Donations:
SpaghettiO’s original/meatball
Cup of Noodles chicken/meat
Tuna
Beef jerky sticks
Fruit cups
Applesauce
Variety snack pack/trail mix
Peanut butter sandwich crackers
Frito lay classic mix
Nabisco cookies and cracker variety pack
3) Help save lives! Lake City Partners Ending Homelessness operates the day shelter God’s Little Acre (GLA). Their staff are responding to a lot of drug overdoses in the immediate area, and are having difficulty keeping enough doses of Narcan, the anti-opiodvoverdose medication, in stock.
Any resident of King County can order a free Narcan kit from this website: https://www.kelley-ross.com/services/naloxone/king- county-naloxone-access. It will be sent to you by mail. Please do this, and give your kit to GLA. You can drop it off at GLA, 12521 33rd Avenue NE, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. If you need help with delivery, email us at uuchomelessness@gmail.com.
4)
Vote for the Mental Health Levy: King County is asking us to take a significant step towards finally fulfilling the decades old promise to provide community-based services for mentally ill members of our community. (Read
Seattle Times article.)
Please fill out your ballot and vote yes on the Mental Health Levy by
Tuesday, April 25.
Thank you.
