Join UUCers to Honor the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Monday, January 15

MLK Day is a great opportunity to dig into our Eighth Principle and think about what it means to you by finding activities to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Activities are available to suit your interests and capabilities. Connect with other UUCers in the process throughout the day.

Seattle MLK Coalition: A Dream Unfinished Workshops, Rally, and March (Garfield High)

9:15-10:30 a.m. Workshops

It’s one thing to march, but it is another to learn more about why we march. What information and skills do we need in order to live into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of Beloved Community? The Coalition is offering 16 workshops—something for everyone!

The UUC Family Ministry team invites all of us to join UUC youth at the Bystander Intervention workshop #2 to learn creative approaches and skills for de-escalation and social change.

11 a.m. Rally  Need inspiration? This rally is an excellent opportunity!

12:30 p.m. March Since 1983 UUC members who want to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy (as well as our church’s legacy in fighting for racial justice) have marched together as a UUC contingent in the Seattle MLK Coalition's March from Garfield High School through parts of Seattle. It's a joyous and inspiring event. Meet on the upper terrace above the flag poles at Garfield High by 12:30 p.m. If you have Side With Love clothing, wear it proudly!

Other Events

'"Let the Dream Ring Big" Breakfast. The MLK Prayer Breakfast at the Sheraton Hotel, doors opening at 6:45 AM on MLK Day, now in its 11th year, is an opportunity to ask “How may we productively connect across interracial interfaith lines with Christian communities to honor King’s legacy?” Join several UUC members attending the breakfast by asking to be seated with Jewels Mellen. Advance registration strongly advised.

We look forward to seeing many of you at one or more of these events!
