Art Reception: “Waiting for the Rain”

Sunday, May 19, 1–3 p.m. in the UUC chapel

All are invited to meet Seattle artist Ian Shearer at an Artist Reception on Sunday, May 19, in the UUC chapel. He will open an exhibit of his paintings entitled “Waiting for the Rain.”  Shearer will make a brief presentation about his work and refreshments will be served.

Shearer is a graduate of The Academy of Art at the University of San Francisco. In 2018, Shearer survived a massive stroke. Through intense therapy he was able to regain use of the right side of his body.  However, his painting style and abilities were greatly changed. These changes have led him to “start over” as an artist.

At this time, Shearer works primarily with acrylic paint. Through urban landscapes, he explores themes of isolation, subjective reality, sensory processing, and memory. He is developing a dialogue of post-stroke and neuro- divergent experience. “Waiting for the Rain” is a collection of work created by Shearer during the past 5 years of his stroke recovery.

Shearer’s work will be on display in the chapel from May 18 through June 29, 2024. For more information about the exhibit and reception, please contact Art Committee Co-Chair Judy Oerkvitz. More information about Shearer and his work can be found on his website at https://www.ianshearerstudio.com
