Coming of Age Service

Worship services at 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. in the chapel and via live stream

After a year of deep reflection and rich exploration, teens in UUC's Coming of Age program (see below) will present their credos, or faith statements, to the congregation. With the help of their mentors and the Coming of Age facilitators, the teens have crafted a service which reflects the values and beliefs most important to them, focusing on the themes "community" and "tradition." Participating in this service is not only an opportunity to hear from teens at UUC, but also to witness their completion of this important rite of passage experience.

Music by the All Voices Choir and Dwight Beckmeyer, piano.

Coming of Age is a rite of passage experience for teens in 9th and 10th grade, where participants explore their personal and spiritual beliefs. At the beginning of the year, Coming of Age teens are paired with an adult mentor from the congregation, who offers a sense of guidance and perspective. Together, mentors and mentees explore questions about god, identity, life after death, good and evil, justice-making, and personal purpose. The year culminates in a weekend retreat, including a solo vigil in the woods, and the development of a personal faith statement.
