UU Seminar with Rev. Jon Luopa Adds Audit Option on Zoom

Starting Wednesday, October 18, 7 p.m. via Zoom

"Thinking, Understanding, Believing" is a series of intimate seminars offered by the Rev. Jon Luopa, UUC Senior Minister in the fall, winter, and spring of 2023–24. Seminar participant seats have been filled, but others are invited to audit the course via Zoom. This option is audit only, not participatory. We expect to make recordings available after each session as well.

Seminar auditors will be able to observe via Zoom while Jon and the seminar participants explore the teachings of three prominent UU theologians in order to deeply examine:

  • What liberal religious traditions inform our search for stability and change?
  • How reliable is our experience?
  • Is there anything we can trust, ultimately?

The seminars will convene in three blocks over the course of this program year. Each block will consist of three Wednesday evening sessions from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Find the Zoom link (via UUC Connect).

Texts to be used in this seminar are available at the UUC Bookstore or from other outlets. They are:

  • Paul Rasor, Faith Without Certainty: Liberal Theology in the 21st Century  (Seminar dates October 18, 25, and November 1)
  • Rebecca Parker, Blessing the World: What Can Save Us Now (Seminar dates January 24, 31, and February 7)
  • George K. Beech, Transforming Liberalism: The Theology of James Luther Adams (Seminar dates April 24, May 1 and 8)

From time to time during the course of this program, seminar participants will invite open discussion opportunities with a broader group, probably in-person only at UUC on Sunday afternoons. Details will be announced when dates are determined.

For more information on auditing this seminar or accessing recordings, contact Janine Larsen, UUC Director of Ministries.
