“Like, Totally” Quilt Exhibit

Opening Sunday, April 13, in the UUC chapel

The Art Committee invites all to enjoy colorful quilts by the members of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild in our Chapel beginning in mid-April.  The exhibit, entitled “Like, Totally,” features quilts created for the Guild’s “Block of the Month” Project in 2024. The exhibit will hang from April 13–May 15, 2025. No reception is planned.

The quilt pattern, designed by Louise Wackerman, has a little ‘80’s flair.  The design was inspired by blending traditional quilt shapes and piecing techniques with a modern style characterized by bold geometric shapes arranged in a striking and unexpected way.

Guild members were invited to create their own interpretations of the design by choosing their own fabrics in differing colors, patterns, and quilting textures. The quilters pieced together the individual blocks as they were released each month with detailed instructions by Wackerman. This exhibition is a sample of quilts completed by Guild members.

Quilt Designer Louise Wackerman is a Seattle architect by day and an artist, crafter, photographer, sewist and quilter in her free time. She picked up quilting 15 years ago and it has become her main artistic outlet. She embraces all types of modern quilting, but feels the most free when sewing her own designs and engaging in improvisational quilting. Her quilts have hung in both local and international quilt shows. Learn more about her and her projects at https://feelincrafty.wordpress.com/  (@imfeelincrafty).

The Seattle Modern Quilt Guild is a group of modern quilters who love to sew together. They have been part of the worldwide organization, The Modern Quilt Guild, since 2010 and were formalized as a non-profit organization in 2013. In-person meetings are held in Seattle, but membership includes quilters from the greater Puget Sound area and beyond. Since the pandemic the Guild has grown to include online members from throughout the U.S. who value the compelling speakers, great workshops, support and other resources.
