Spiritual Deepening through UUC Reflection Groups and UU Wellspring

Our 2024–25 church year will bring two programs introducing and supporting UU spiritual deepening in small groups. Our sixth round of Reflection Groups will begin in October and run twice a month for six two-hour sessions. And in January, we are excited to bring back UU Wellspring with a new curriculum, “Love at the Center: UU Values and Covenant.” This program will meet for 11 sessions, also twice a month, ending in June.

Both programs focus on the discovery and experience of regular spiritual practice as an individual and with the companionship of a supportive small group. Participants will engage practices such as Lectio Divina, meditation in many forms, introspective journaling or alternative emotive practice, sharing in covenant, and spiritual discernment. Both invite meeting monthly or more frequently with a professional Spiritual Director.

Reflection Groups

Applications are now open for our sixth round of Reflection Groups. Our guiding text will be We Were Made for These Times: 10 Lessons for Moving Through Change, Loss and Disruption, by Kaira Jewel Lingo a former nun in the Thich Nhat Hahn tradition and a respected teacher of meditation and mindfulness. We’ll consider not only our personal perspectives, but also how spiritual exploration might contribute to greater clarity around our congregation’s process of change during our ministerial transition. In addition to the groups’ regular sessions, all participants will gather on Wednesday, November 6, to share a meal and responses to the election results—and what they may ask of us.

Be sure to read the full description of the Fall Reflection Groups before you apply, so you are aware of the content and expectations for participation. Click here to review this information and find the link to apply. Applications are due Friday, September 20. Assignment to groups will be announced by September 25. Groups will begin in early October.

UU Wellspring

In October, we will open applications for UU Wellspring “Love at the Center: UU Values and Covenant,” an 11 session program which will begin in January 2025, meeting for two hours twice a month. More information will be announced, including dates for informational previews to find out about the program and whether it is right for you.

We expect to offer two groups, each with trained co-facilitators and a 10-person maximum. Participants in the fall Reflection Groups or last spring’s “Article II and You,” a UU Wellspring short course, will be given priority for enrollment in this program, though all UUC members and friends are welcome to apply. There is a registration fee for this program, four required books, and a cost for the expected engagement of monthly professional Spiritual Direction throughout the course of the program. Financial assistance will be available from UUC so that cost is not a barrier to participation.
