Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibit

Opens Sunday, October 27, 1–3 p.m. in the UUC chapel

Adults and families are invited to the grand opening of an exhibit of Chinese calligraphy and paintings on Sunday, October 27, 1–3 pm, in the UUC chapel. Artists will demonstrate and discuss traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting techniques; practice works will be given away to those in attendance. Artists will also prepare Chinese painting cards inscribed with an individual’s name in both Chinese and English. A raffle will be held, and the winner will receive a copy of the book Selected Works of Chinese Painting, by Hongduan Yang and his students. Refreshments will be served in the entryway.

The United States Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Association was started by Master Artist Hongduan Yang and his students . Their goal is to facilitate an international cultural exchange through art. For over 30 years, Yang and his students have taught and used traditional techniques to paint landscapes, birds and flowers, and people. A representative explains, “The painters capture the life, the characteristics, and the soul of the objects being portrayed without bothering much about the peripheral details. The pictures also depict feelings, moods, themes and interpretations, thereby easily rousing a viewer’s response.”

Master Yang is a lifelong resident of Washington, and a longtime resident of the Seattle area. He has particularly been recognized for his masterful paintings of eagles, signifying progress through hard work and with soaring dreams. Yang has received many awards for his work.

This very special exhibit will hang from October 27—December 7, 2024. The works may be viewed on Sunday mornings. In addition, arrangements may be made to bring groups to view the exhibit at other times by contacting Art Committee Co-Chair Rhona Jack.
