In the Larger Community: All We Carry—A Documentary

Sunday, November 24, 3:30–5:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Shalom

All We Carry, a powerful documentary released earlier this year, follows a young Honduran family as they flee persecution—migrating in cargo trains across Mexico, claiming asylum at the US border, and enduring separation in detention before being released in Seattle. A small synagogue in West Seattle, Kol HaNeshamah, sponsors the family for two years while they await the final decision on their asylum case. This documentary bears witness to the everyday moments of Magdiel, Mirna and their son along the way, and as they settle in Seattle. Read more about their story here

The film is about 90 minutes and will be followed by a panel discussion to include the family, the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) and the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice.

The director, Cady Voge, was an International Women’s Media Foundation fellow and contributes to outlets including the BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Wired. She first met the family of this documentary while covering the migrant caravan in Mexico in 2018.
