Saturday, September 30, 2–6 p.m. in Seattle's Central District
UUC's Art Committee and Racial Justice Team invite you to support Wa Na Wari by attending their “Walk The Block” event on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 2–6 p.m. This outdoor visual and performing arts festival transforms Central District homes, businesses, parks, porches, and other common spaces into art installations and performance sites. It is a chance to experience a slice of African American culture that defined the Central District as the hub for Black life in Washington State for over 70 years, while raising funds to support the organization.
To learn more, stop by the Learning Station in Nathan Johnson Hall after services on September 24. Find more information and tickets at www.wanawari.org/wtb.
You may remember that UUC supported Wa Na Wari with a Second Sunday Plate in May 2023, and we have exhibited works by artists affiliated with Wa Na Wari. The organization creates space for Black ownership, possibility, and belonging through art, historic preservation, and connection.
