Remember your Roots ~ Share your Routes ~ Play with Possibilities

Would you like to find a refreshing way of becoming a collaborator for justice? Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s aspirational Beloved Community, where all people thrive in harmonious relationship with the living Earth, invites each of us to include others at the imagined “Welcome Table” of the traditional African American gospel song (#407 in UU hymnal).

Here’s a play-filled, small group opportunity—only three sessions—to investigate our “roots” and “routes.” Drawing inspiration from Where I’m From poems introduced to UUC in 2014 by Dr. Caprice Hollins of Cultures Connecting, we’ll explore our experiences of the people and places where we grew up.

We’ll share how our perspectives about racial diversity, inclusion and empowerment were shaped by physical geography, public policy and historical context. We’ll discover some liberating next steps we can take. Individually and together, we will remember, learn, reflect… un-learn, play, take risks, and create. By using the embodied story-telling and relationship-building practices of InterPlay, we will craft and share Side-by-Side spoken word pieces.

The courageous vulnerability inherent in these creative practices can lead to unforeseen connections and become a force for good. Sponsored by UUC’s Acting for Racial Justice Team.
