Dear Members and Friends,
I have been getting a few inquires from members about whether we might have another pilgrimage to New England sites of historic significance for Unitarian Universalists. The last pilgrimage was in 2018 and then we paused due to building renovations and the Covid pandemic. But, fortunately, most of that is behind us now.
If we have a trip it would ideally be October 3 through 9. We would fly to Boston (individually), meet at the hotel in Cambridge that first night, then spend the next few days touring Harvard, Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, then a day in Concord visiting the homes of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louisa May Alcott, over to Walden Pond to see Henry Thoreau’s cabin site, dinner together. Off the next day to the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard (a town), the site of an early 19th century Unitarian commune. We then spend a day in Boston where there are many sites of interest. On Sunday we attend a church service at the Arlington Street Church in downtown Boston. Some folks return home on Sunday afternoon or on Monday. But for those folks who have family or friends in the area, they either arrive before our trip starts or remain afterward.
While we have a shuttle to take us to sites, and use the subway when in Boston, there is a lot of walking. Hotel rooms can be singles or doubles. Some meals are included in the cost. Several of them will be on our own. Cost will be determined once we get a read on interest, then contact the hotel we have used in the past for their latest rates.
We have chosen early October as our travel time to take advantage of fall foliage in New England. So, this notice is to start hearing from folks who may be interested in such a trip. If you are interested, please email me at jon.luopa@uuchurch.org to alert me to your interest. I won’t assume confirmation until we finalize the cost for the trip.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
