Wifi and Technical Difficulties with Livestream, Recordings

As we bring new technology online in the Chapel and Nathan Johnson Hall, we have experienced some difficulties with our livestream and ability to record our Sunday services. We are working to address the source of these concerns, which include fine-tuning the settings of our new equipment and continued training for our staff and volunteers.

However, we are also aware of the limitations of our internet service at UUC. Over the decades as internet connectivity was introduced to the public and became standardized in homes and businesses, UUC did not keep up with these upgrades. As a result, neither Comcast nor Lumen (and smaller providers who depend on Comcast and Lumen infrastructure) are willing to offer the church an affordable solution for fiber access for a high-speed connection. Such a connection is necessary to provide the kind of upload and download speeds that would meet our current and developing needs for livestreaming and Zoom.

We are currently pursuing standard business cable options with Comcast (which would be somewhat better than our current copper DSL connection) and a possible broadband solution with a microwave provider. It will take several months to close and build out either of these solutions and to see any resulting improvements in our connection speeds.

In the meantime, we will be suspending our “UUC Guest” wifi connectivity during Sunday Services, and will restrict access at other times only to those who require connection for group presentations in the building

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to upgrade our systems towards a more consistent and high quality experience.
