How to Share a Video

HOW TO SHARE MEDIA WITH UUC

Given the constraints of streaming videos and the requirements of Microsoft PowerPoint, we have created the following guide for those who want to share videos to be played on Sunday mornings or to be posted on our website.

Creating your Video

We recommend that you use the tools that you are familiar with to create video. The camera on your smartphone or laptop is a great option.

Please create your video in the landscape orientation; the video should be wider than it is tall. Videos in landscape orientation will appear larger in the service and work better on UUC’s website.

If you are making a video for the service, please be aware that it will only appear in approximately one quarter of the screen. People should be recorded in closeups, generally from the waist up. Video of objects and buildings should fill a majority of the screen.

Getting your Video to UUC

The easiest way to do this is to upload the video you have to YouTube as a Public but Unlisted video and then share the link with us. This way, YouTube will take care of the technical stuff and you can rest assured that it will work correctly.

If you’ve never uploaded a video to YouTube before, Business Insider has a good tutorial that will walk you through the process step by step: How to upload a video to YouTube and customize its settings

Once you’ve uploaded the video, you can email the link to Susan St. John, UUC’s Communications Coordinator.

We will make a copy of the video for use in the service or UUC’s website. After the video has appeared in a service or is visible on UUC’s website, you may delete the video from YouTube. See Business Insider’s How to delete your own YouTube videos tutorial.

Additional Assistance

If you run into any technical issues with this process, email Jessica Monahan, UUC’s Office Manager.
