The last two months have been difficult for people who work for the federal government, conduct research funded through the National Institutes of Health, and/or manage or work in programs that receive federal funding to provide critical services to people in our community—all roles that, because of our UU values, embody a calling held by so many in our UUC community. Now, after prolonged periods of fear, many are losing their jobs, their funding, their colleagues, and their ability to support their teams and the communities they serve—or are on the precipice of such losses. And those still employed in these roles are experiencing profound levels of upheaval, confusion and uncertainty as the federal structures that once supported their work are gutted, and for many, suddenly no longer exist.
During the Covid-19 pandemic UUC offered space for people who worked in healthcare to gather in community with others navigating similar paths. Similarly, as this time in history unfolds, UUC is providing a similar space for people whose work is directly impacted by these changes to federal funding and policies to gather in community. If you work in one of these settings/roles and gathering with others navigating similar paths would be of support to you, please join us on the first and third Sunday afternoons from 12:30-2 p.m. in the King room. Colleagues and trusted community members are welcome as well.
