You are invited to join “Wrestling with the Truth of Colonization,” a workshop series hosted by Sound Alliance and co-sponsored by UUC’s Acting for Racial Justice Team. Over five sessions, participants will engage in learning and reflection around the truth of colonization, its ongoing impact in the region where we live, and Indigenous movements of resistance and resiliency. It is offered locally in partnership with United Indians of All Tribes Foundation in Seattle.
Registration is required. You can register and find more information here: https://www.soundorganizing.org/wrestling_with_the_truth_jan24.
A global team of Indigenous leaders, which included United Indians of All Tribes, developed the curriculum. In addition to learning and reflection, additional work will focus on creation of respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and partnerships that lead to an equitable future.
Several UUC members have attended prior "Wrestling" trainings. Catherine Ruha reflects: From the beginning of this training, I was asked to act: to learn the Indigenous history of this place called Seattle, to question my assumptions, and listen to the land. I heard stories of struggles past and present, but also stories of agency, community, and love. Participants came to it with different levels of experience and understanding. We all struggled. But, together we were buoyed by humor and strengthened in sharing our feelings and thoughts in small groups. This was inspiring work that I continue to take part in.
United Indians of All Tribes Foundation will be the recipient of UUC’s Second Sunday offering collection in April.
Since 2008, UUC has been a founding member of Sound Alliance, an alliance of faith, labor, health education and community organizations dedicated to building a base of everyday civic leaders to work effectively for the common good and the change they want to see in their communities.
