Wa Na Wari: "Thank You!"

The Art Committee thanks you for your generous donations for the Second Sunday plate in January. We raised almost $1,500 to support Wa Na Wari, a non-profit organization which creates space for Black ownership, possibility, and belonging through art, historic preservation, and connection. The donated funds will be earmarked for their Artist-in-Residence Program and Art Gallery, which offer support and recognition to emerging artists of color.

Upon hearing of this donation, Elisheba Johnson, co-founder and art curator, responded, “Wow. I am so grateful. What a blessing the University Unitarian Church has been for Wa Na Wari. This amount takes care of an artist residency just like you all hoped. I will be bringing in an artist from Trinidad with this donation… Thank you again for your support and commitment to Black art and culture in Seattle.
