October’s Second Sunday Plate Collection benefits Teen Feed. Your generosity funds UUC’s Meal Team and its partnership with Teen Feed for over 20 years. In particular, these funds cover expenses for groceries and supplies for UUC’s crew to prepare and serve 18 meals each year. With about 1,000 homeless teens in King County, the need is great. If you haven't yet contributed to the October Plate Collection, you can still do so through October 25.
- Give online and select “Offering Plate” from the drop-down menu and enter “Teen Feed October Plate” in the memo line.
- Drop off a check in the UUC office, with a memo note "Teen Feed October Plate."
Our UUC Meal Team is a multigenerational team of over 25, including 9 of our UUC youth. Last Sunday, two volunteers, Rebecca and Asha Hendrickson (photo below), shared more about their experiences and the importance of engaging in the wider community.

A central part of Teen Feed is that I am showing up, as myself, to recognize and listen to and work to meet the needs of another person who is a member of my community, who matters to me, as an individual person. When we prepare and serve meals at Teen Feed, we express our commitment and caring directly.

I walk out of my house and see people in despair, all over, and people ignoring them... We’re meant to live in community. We aren’t meant to be this disconnected... One main reason for churches, throughout history, is community. To me, this is the most important part of church.
Knowing more about Teen Feed is key to understanding its mission and how these meals our UUC Meal Team prepares lead to moving teens off the streets.
- Teen Feed responds to the most basic needs of at-risk youth, offering healthy meals, advocacy, street outreach, and healthcare access.
- Offers 21,000 meals each year.
- Over a shared meal, and through street outreach and case management, Teen Feed strives to foster trusting relationships with teens experiencing homelessness.
