Music by our Family Holiday Choir; our All Voices Choir; Cally Lindenmier, mezzo; and Dwight Beckmeyer, piano.
Please note: Due to circumstances beyond our control, there will be no livestream (or recording) of this Sunday's services.
From Aria Curtis, UUC Director of Family Ministry:
We are trying something new this coming Sunday—or at least, new to me: a no-rehearsal pageant! At our Annual Family Holiday Service, and with the help of a few UUC teens, Amanda and I will narrate the story of the birth of Jesus, but we will need the help of the whole congregation and especially the kids. Through call and response, and some spontaneous participation, everyone will help bring this story to life.
There are two scenes in this retelling, that invite children forward: The first is when Mary and Joseph arrive to Bethlehem and find a stable. We'll invite children forward to be the animals in the stable. And, the second is when the angels speak with the shepherds. Similarly, we'll invite children forward to be the angels. For both scenes, we'll have costumes available to put on before the service starts and even during the service, when children get up to the dais. But, if your kid knows now that they definitely want to be an angel or an animal in the manger (like a cow or a horse, or even an octopus) they are more than welcome to come to church in costume.
The whole service will have a fun and spontaneous feel. Both the 9:30 and 11:15 services will use the same script, and children who would like to participate in the pageant can show up to either one (no need to come to both). There's nothing special families need to prepare—unless you really want to!
In addition to the pageant, this service will feature a performance of the Family Holiday Choir and a Child Dedication Ceremony.
Sunday worship at UUC includes music, reflection, sermon, and connection, with informal Coffee & Conversations afterwards in Nathan Johnson Hall. UUC Worship Services are also live streamed and available for later viewing.
