In the Larger Community: Sound Alliance Leadership Training

Friday, November 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and

Saturday, November 16, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. in the Knatvold room

Sound Alliance is an alliance of faith, labor, health, education and community organizations dedicated to building a base of everyday civic leaders to effectively stand for change they want to see in their communities. UUC is a founding member of the Sound Alliance and has been active in different campaigns over the years.

The Sound Alliance Leadership Institute is based on the philosophy and practices developed by the Industrial Areas Foundation in over 80 years of successful organizing. Their training is interactive, thoughtful and made for people with all levels of experience.

As practical as it is theoretical, we teach the tools to start building public relationships and working through the organizing cycle to solve problems in our communities.

Topics at Foundations training include:

  • Intro to Relational Broad-Based Organizing: why building power through community organizing creates sustainable, powerful institutions and a culture of democratic participation;
  • Power: what daily experiences tell us about the nature of power and how we can develop the ability to make an impact in institutions and communities;
  • Leadership: how to develop your capacity and that of those around you to engage in civic life; and
  • Action: where and when to take effective action to get an intended reaction.

Member institutions of Sound Alliance are encouraged to send leaders and members to participate. It is an important space to connect with other organizations and to develop skills in organizing. Training is free for members of Sound Alliance member institutions.

Email Rev. Beth (beth.chronister@uuchurch.org) or Sound Alliance Organizer, Winston Lofton (info@soundorganizing.org) to register by November 6.
