We have an upcoming staff transition in the Music Program—I'm sad to say that our fabulous tenor section leader/soloist, Ian Loney, will be moving on from UUC this summer. Ian has a young family who are becoming more involved at their home church where his wife grew up (Richmond Beach Congregational), and he wants to be able to spend Sundays with his family. Ian has been the rock of the tenor section for almost ten years, and we will miss him deeply.

Below is a personal note from Ian: 

It is with some sadness that I am officially announcing the end of my tenure as tenor section lead and soloist for UUC's Loft Choir. I have been with the church since 2016 and have seen it through many changes. Some of these include over a year singing in the gym at the community center; followed almost immediately by the pandemic just as the new chapel was about to open, bringing about an era of livestreaming services from the beautiful new sanctuary with only five people in the room. Finally, the return to full church services in the beautiful new space, a space I love singing in.

Through it all, I have always felt deeply appreciated and welcomed by this wonderful congregation. It has been an honor to have been able to be a part of the amazing music program here for all these years. I thank the Loft Choir for their commitment, hard work, and especially friendship, as well as the other soloists. I’ve also feel extremely fortunate to have worked with the incomparable Dwight Beckmeyer, who is an incredible musician and person.

Finally, I’d like to thank Karen Thomas, whose support has helped me so much to grow as a musician. It has been a true gift to have the opportunity to work with such a wonderful, brilliant musical talent as hers.
