Social Justice Jam: Inspiration, Connection, Lobbying Skills

Wednesday, January 3, 6:15 p.m. in Nathan Johnson Hall

The UUC congregation includes outstanding individuals with histories of effective lobbying on social justice issues at the international, national, state, or local level. And it includes many of us who understand the importance of those efforts but may need encouragement, information, or skills to engage in them.

The Wednesday, January 3, Social Justice Jam will provide all three, just in time for the short, 60-day Washington State legislative session that starts on January 8. Join the optional 6:15 p.m. soup and salad supper in Nathan Johnson Hall, or come at 7 p.m. to:

  • Connect with other UUC congregants;
  • Learn how to use Take Action Network, an on-line tool that makes it easy to share your thoughts and opinions with your legislators;
  • Hear about the legislative priorities of UUC social justice groups and their community partners for 2024 bills on climate, other environmental topics, housing, policing reform, gun safety and more;
  • Receive advice on effective lobbying strategies.

After the Jam, you can lobby on your own from home, form an Advocacy Duo with a friend to encourage each others’ efforts (see video below), or sign up for in-person “lobby days” in Olympia, as your schedule allows.

We hope to see you on the 3rd!
