The Service of Solace is a meditative evening service of music, candle lighting and reflection led by Rev. Beth Chronister. The holidays can be a particularly poignant time for anyone who is grieving a loss or missing a loved one around the dinner table. This service is designed to hold space for grief during the holidays and is also open to anyone needing an evening of respite and reflection from some of the forced cheer of the Christmas season. The hope of this service is to provide people a place just to be and have their hearts held.
The Family Holiday Services are fun and engaging for all ages. They include a participative Nativity tableau, a child dedication and lots of wonderful music. The services will be led by Aria Curtis with music by the All Voices Choir; Dwight Beckmeyer, piano; and Cally Lindenmier, mezzo.
Note: You may have heard Rev. Jon's announcement last Sunday that we would be doing a Santa Lucia Processional during the Family Holiday Service. While it is a lovely tradition, which holds meaning for many at UUC, we are not planning to incorporate in this Sunday's service. I encourage those for whom this tradition is particularly beloved to continue to hold their memories of it close to their heart. You might find it fun and meaningful to share with others on Sunday about this and other personal or communal winter traditions that you love, grew up with, or have done in the past. I would love to hear such stories! ~ Aria Curtis, Director of Family Ministry
The Christmas Eve Candlelight Services are beautiful and tranquil, incorporating candlelight and stillness with readings and evocative Christmas choral music. There is also a Christmas carol sing-along beginning about 20 minutes prior to each of these services. (On Christmas Eve, there is no coffee hour or reception after the services.)
Also, please note that there are no Sunday morning services this day.
This service will be led by Rev. Jon Luopa with music by Ian Loney, tenor; and Dwight Beckmeyer, piano. (Sprouts care will be available during this service.)
Again, please note that there will be no 11:15 a.m. service on this morning.
Except for the single service on Sunday, December 31, the church will be closed Monday, December 25, through Monday, January 1.
