November Plate Collection and Donations for Migrants

Thanks to all who generously contributed to last month’s Plate Collection to benefit the migrants being offered hospitality at Riverton Park United Methodist Church. Nearly $6,500 was collected! The Church Council of Greater Seattle and the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice Northwest joined together, with many other congregations, in a multifaith campaign to raise funds to benefit the migrants at Riverton Park Church. This small church that has welcomed so many—over 350 migrants, along with a tiny house village in collaboration with the Low Income Housing Institute, is stretched far beyond capacity.

Although some migrants have been moved into temporary housing at motels and shelters, there are still over 350 at the church. Most are living in tents outside, as the rainy season settles in, and as temperatures turn colder. Read a KUOW November 22 story on them, or watch coverage by Seattle Channel's City Inside/Out.

Many from our UUC community joined a donations drive. Over nearly three weeks, dozens of coats, shoes, socks, hats, blankets, tarps and more were donated at UUC. Others sent packages directly to the Tukwila church, choosing items from the Amazon Wish List.
