UNIVERSITY UNITARIAN CHURCH

Congregational Care

Congregational Care groups meet together to provide service and comfort to church members that may need extra support due to life events. Contact our Congregational Engagement Coordinator for more information about how to get involved. Needing pastoral care? Email our Care Team or the Rev. Victoria Poling.

Care Team

Working closely with the Rev. Victoria Poling, Associate Minister of Community Engagement, the Care Team is a group of skilled volunteers who accompany members and friends through life’s transitions and challenges by offering confidential support and care. From welcoming a newborn child into a family, to accompanying someone through cancer treatment, to walking with those in grief or other emotional distress, the Care Team supports individuals and groups alike. They offer tangible assistance—meals, professional referrals, and hospital visits—and act as a caring, listening presence. By doing so, we seek to strengthen our bonds of humanity and hope. You can reach the Care Team through our confidential 24-hour message line at (206) 454-7722 or email the team at care@uuchurch.org. A member of the Care Team is on call to respond to messages left on the Care Line and email inbox. Both are checked once or twice per day.

Memorial Reception Team

This team provides hospitality and care for memorials at UUC. The Memorial Reception Committee coordinator connects with families in advance of the memorial. The team organizes the reception and are there on the day of the memorial to support the family and friends of the deceased. This is a ministry of care, presence and cookies. If you would like to join the list of volunteers contacted when there is a memorial, please email the UUC office.

Common Threads

We are a congenial group, with engaging conversations as our needles and hooks fly, making shawls to be given by the Care Team to someone in our community in need of comfort. We welcome knitters, crocheters, and crafters of all ages, and have some church-provided yarn for those needing supplies. We also welcome shawls from those preferring to do their needlework on their own. We'll have a chance to catch up with one another and our needle work together.

Meetings: 4th Sundays from 1:15-3:15 pm in the Dix Room

Leaders: Leah Evison and Maylin Harnden-Fisher

Grief Support Group

In support of UUC’s mission to awaken spirit, nurture hope, and inspire action, the Care Team sponsors a support group for members and friends living with loss. All change is loss, whether the change was wanted or not. We let go of what was to step into what is. Note: This group is not open for drop-in. Contact the UUC office to be added to the waiting list.
