Whether we own or rent, we often take for granted the simple act of coming home to a safe place. UUC is proud to be a part of providing security and peace once again this year, as we lead the first Habitat for Humanity build made up entirely of Unitarian Universalists. We will build a new home, working side by side with the family who will live there — a single father from Somalia and his five children. The first work will begin in a few short weeks, with groundbreaking on October 11.
We’re joined by Eastshore UU and Westside UU. Both congregations have gloves on and hammers in hand, ready to start building! UUC needs your help in making this year’s build a success.
We’ll kick off the venture on Sunday, September 14, with Rev. Jon Luopa inspiring us from the pulpit. A special offering will be dedicated toward the $70,000 house sponsorship. Orientations for on-site volunteers will begin that afternoon, September 14 at 1:00PM, at University Unitarian Church.
If you’re ready for some rewarding community service work, please plan on attending the orientation. Everyone who works on-site needs to attend an orientation. There will be continuing opportunities to do so. And even if you've been through a Habitat orientation before, you need to go again – there have been updates! Work days will be Wednesdays and Saturdays. Non-construction volunteer opportunities are also available, such as providing lunch and snacks on the work site.
