Register Now to Celebrate Jon Luopa Day

Sunday, June 16: 10 a.m. worship service; All Ages celebration starting at noon

Please register by June 1

All are invited to celebrate Jon Luopa Day on June 16 at UUC, as we honor our Senior Minister and his last Sunday in the pulpit before retiring from 25 years of extraordinary service to University Unitarian Church and 43 years in UU parish ministry.

We’ll begin in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. for a single Sunday worship service. There will be tears, joy, Jon’s favorite hymns and an anthem composed in his honor. There will be tributes, gifts, and a special collection to establish a new church program in Jon’s name. Jon will deliver his final sermon and benediction as our Senior Minister. The service will end with a ritual of releasing Jon to his family after so many years of his sacrificial ministry to others.

This special service will begin a little later than our usual summer Sunday services, and may run a little longer than an hour. It will be livestreamed and recorded, as are all of UUC’s Sunday services. Children are welcome in the chapel with their families, and childcare for Sprouts (age 6 months to about 5 years) will be available as an option. Activities for older children may also be offered; this will be announced in advance if we have sufficient volunteer support.

A reception and informal buffet lunch with live bluegrass music will immediately follow at UUC, throughout the building. This "after party" will include outdoor games for all, with some quiet spaces indoors for young children and those of all ages who need a little less hubbub.

Advance registration is requested by June 1 to help with our catering count and event planning, and to invite volunteer sign-ups, messages to pass along to Jon, and the option to include designated gifts in honor of Jon’s ministry.
